My concept took inspiration from a WWII Japanese fighter plane - the Mitsubishi A6M (nicknamed Type - Zero).
I imagined what my artwork would look like on a planes’ fuselage after being abandoned on a Midway beach, eroding with the Pacific salt air over the years.
I started designing a LAKI logo that loosely resembled a Japanese kanji character. The calligraphy represents the lyrics from 'Forbidden Colours' by Ryuichi Sakamoto & David Sylvian. The song was used for the motion picture 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence'. This provides a sense of alignment between the two ideas whilst recognising the irony.
Letting nature take it course and rust the metal, the calligraphy came to life.
